Orchestral conducting option

The training of the “Orchestral Conducting” programme at the isdaT is further enriched by the Conducting of Instrumental Ensembles discipline offered in partnership with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse (ONCT), under the patronage of Tugan Sokhiev.

Programme specifications

The teaching of the main discipline was entrusted to Sonia Ben-Santamaria. The objectives agreed upon between Tugan Sokhiev and the isdaT are to train conductors capable of conducting a variety of repertoires, both classical and contemporary, symphonic and operatic.

  • Sessions with guest orchestras, supervised by the principal teacher. These sessions include several periods of work at the table with pianos and the orchestras. These sessions usually end with a public concert,
  • Two weekly conducting courses :
    — at the table, supervised, with two pianos focusing on conducting techniques, preparation and exploration of a maximum of repertoire
    — at the table with two pianos. Each conductor has the possibility to use his or her session freely,
  • Masterclasses led by internationally renowned guest conductors (such as Hervé Niquet, Sian Edwards, Franck Beermann and Pierre Bleuse for 2022-2023),
  • In addition to the main and complementary additional disciplines, students will also attend orchestra or opera rehearsals at the Théâtre du Capitole and at the Halle aux Grains.
