Entrance examination

The entrance examination includes oral tests (instrumental or vocal), an interview and a written test for the contemporary music course. The order of these tests may vary from year to year. Absence from any of the examinations is grounds for elimination. The candidates who have obtained the best results in all of the tests are admitted to training, depending on the number of places available for enrolment each year.

Classical music oral examinations

  • Performance of an instrumental or vocal program of approximately 20 minutes, chosen from a list prescribed by the subject area, which can be sent to candidates on request or viewed on the website;
  • Depending on the instrument, a sight reading of a short prescribed piece, including preparation – without instrument – of a duration comparable to that of the piece.

Contemporary music oral examinations

  • An eclectic and contrasting program lasting 20 minutes, which will enable the jury to appreciate the technical and instrumental qualities, as well as the investment in interpretation. The candidate presents himself / herself in a group for this program. At the same time, he / she will perform solo a piece of their choice, or an improvisation lasting 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Sight-reading test: candidates are given 10 minutes of isolated preparation time for a piece which is to be performed solo.

Interview

  • For all the instrumental and vocal disciplines, with the exception of contemporary music: an interview with the jury on musical culture and the motivations of the candidate, lasting approximately 10 minutes. The jury will take into account all elements possible to judge the validity and the coherence of the professional project, the availability of the candidate to follow the entire training, as well as his / her motivation to follow a course combining higher music education and university education;
  • For contemporary music: an interview lasting approximately 10 minutes. The following points will be addressed: self-assessment by the candidate of his / her instrumental or vocal test, if previous, knowledge of the professional world of contemporary music, personal artistic project and general knowledge.
