David Minetti
Italian clarinettist, born in Turin where he was unanimously awarded first prize at the G. Verdi Conservatory, David Minetti then went on to study with Michel Lethiec and Hans Deinzer. He has collaborated with the Filarmonica Italiana Orchestra, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, the Poitou-Charentes Orchestra and, since 1996, has been principal clarinetist with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, with which he has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls (Musikverein, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Berlin Philharmonic, etc.). David Minetti is regularly invited to perform as a soloist under the baton of conductors such as Tugan Sokhiev, Michel Plasson, Philippe Jordan, Arie van Beek and Pascal Rophé, in a repertoire ranging from Mozart’s Concerto to Copland, Debussy and Weber. He also performs extensively as a chamber musician, giving numerous concerts in Paris, Tokyo, Madrid, Turin and Seoul, etc. with artists such as David Bismuth, Thierry Huillet, Clara Cernat, Michel Michalakakos, Michel Lethiec, and Michel Dalberto.
In 2018, composer Bruno Mantovani dedicated the piece Quasi lento to him, which was premiered at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse. The Toulouse composer Thierry Huillet also dedicated the piece Clarinette for solo instrument to him, and he participated in the creation of Carnaval de la Forêt by the same composer. Highly committed to teaching, he is a clarinet teacher and director of the wind ensemble at the isdaT. He regularly gives masterclass in France and abroad (Brussels, Turin, Warsaw University, Tokyo, Rome, Seoul, etc.). He has also been invited by the University of Rio de Janeiro and the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires as a teacher during the tours of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in South America.
In 2016, his first recording (On Air) was released, produced in collaboration with the Balma Parachute Orchestra, featuring a jazz repertoire in which the clarinet is very much at home. In 2016, the Académie du Languedoc awarded him the “Paul Vidal” prize in recognition of his musical and educational activities in the Toulouse region. Fascinated by conducting orchestras and ensembles, he has been conducting the Quint-Fonsegrives Harmony Orchestra since 2008. At the head of the brass and percussion ensemble of the Orchestre National du Capitole, he has conducted concerts in Toulouse and the Basque Country. In 2020, he made his debut with the Orchestre Symphonique des Étudiants de Toulouse with a programme featuring Verdi, Respighi and Bizet. David Minetti plays Selmer “Récital” clarinets and is an ambassador for Steuer reeds.
